Laser Scanning

C3DS offers affordable laser scanning on site for your complex projects.  Using one of the most advanced hand held laser scanners in today's market highly accurate results can be produced within a matter of hours.  We offer the following specifications:

  • Resolution in z-axis 0.1mm (0.004 in)
  • Accuracy up to 50 µm (0.002 in)
  • ISO 20 µm + 200 µm/m

The above picture shows a graphical depiction of a spoon which surface was scanned. The scanned data set (.stl Data set) was then further prepared to develop a smooth and accurate solid model that can be used with any common 3D CAD program. The surface of the CAD model shows an exact representation of the original Spoon.

Computer Tomography/CT-Scanning

C3DS goes beyond the visible surfaces that can be scanned using regular scanning technology and provides an inside look to your component(s).  Using X-Ray technology, this state of the art technology provides a non destructive method for product failure detection. Using the latest and fastest algorithms available we are able to demonstrate Density Changes with the following high areal accuracy:

  • Up to 1micron (0.00004")

Examples include the detection of  porosity within a casting, the detection of cracks within an electrical conductor, or an inside look into the structure of preserved archaeological findings. Final 3D CAD file(s) of the component(s) can be provided in various different formats such as .IGES,. stp, and/or parasolid.

Quality Control/Inspection

C3DS ensures that your product is suitable for the intended purpose and what mistakes need to be eliminated to provide a top quality design. Inspection can be readily deployed on site to determine if product meets companies pass/fail criteria. The gathered data is easily overlayed on the designers original model and compared to the actual scanned data file. Using a colour chart deviations of the "As Build" part can be identified and possible errors in the producation method "Pin-pointed". Using the companies pass/fail criteria problems can be determined before they end up on the shop floor and cause problems during prototype or product deployment phase.
